Smashed on 43rd

October 5, 2014
Walking on 43rd Avenue between 74th and 72nd around 10am Sunday, I noticed a van that was the latest victim of the 43rd Avenue car-window smasher. There have been incidents of car-window-smashing over the years, but last I'd heard, the problem was somewhat under control. Apparently not anymore :o(

FYI, the white  stuff on the side was my Photoshop version of 43rd Décor (graffiti). That is, it was not present in real life (somehow this vehicle escaped the attention of the local graffiti artists). I just didn't think that the van owner would want his or her business's  name and contact info on my snarky blog.

  1. Hello there, I found your blog via Queens Crap. Thanks for doing something positive in the neighborhood. 44th Avenue between 72nd St and 74th Streets is just as bad. Do you use a gopher to pick up garbage? Litterbugs and illegal dumpers are lowlifes. Keep up the good work!

  2. Thanks so much Alfred!
Currently I do not use a gopher. I really should invest in one though. I've just been picking up stuff while wearing the fake-Rubbermaid yellow gloves from the Woodside dollar store, and using a shovel for the really gross-looking piles.

  3. This has happened to us twice! We live on 67th and 41st Ave. and thieves have smashed and stolen my husbands GPS devices he "hides" underneath the passenger seat. We don't even have an expensive car, it's an old 14 year old car that runs very well. Both times he has left it along 41st Avenue. We've also had our apartment burglarized 3 years ago, when we first moved here from the Bronx. This never happened to us in the Bronx or in Brooklyn. Also, the tremendous amount of dog feces and even human feces is disgusting! The corner of 70th and 41st Ave used to have a lot more frequent illegally dumped trash but the dumpers don't want to be caught by the cameras the condo building has. I've also seen cleaning crews a few times in that area. Young Mormon missionaries have also done service in the area over last winter and summer.
How hard is it to hold onto trash until one finds a trash can or gets home? Not even my two year old throws a piece of wrapper at the floor, he hands it to me or places it in my mom bag, lol. My seven year old special needs daughter has reminded some people to clean up after their dog and has told others "not to be a litterbug, you're supposed to throw it in the garbage can" when she sees them throw things on the ground. You most likely have seen us, me with a birthmark on my cheek, my two year old stubborn son, and my "twins" who are always wearing dresses.
    Good luck!
